This page is for teachers. It provides suggestions for implementing the “There's No Place Like Home for Inspiration” WebQuest. Teachers are encouraged to adapt the WebQuest as well as the information provided here to their own students and classrooms.

Suggestions on the Process Section of the Webquest

  • There are four worksheets provided for students to use in responding to the questions posed in the WebQuest. These worksheets can be downloaded in Microsoft Word and printed out for the students. It is recommended that this be done for assessment purposes and so that the students can have the questions in front of them as they work.
  • In Part One, students are asked to examine images listed in the resources section. These images can be printed out for the students to use in class. In this section you may want to reduce the number of images students have to chose from or select specific ones that you feel apply to your curriculum objectives.
  • In Part Two, students are asked to research their community on the Web. You may want to find additional websites besides those listed in the resources section before students begin work on the webquest. You may also want to make sure your city is listed on these links. If your city can not be found on the Web, conduct your own research in your community to locate possible resources for your students to use.
  • In Part Three, you will need to provide the supplies such as paper, paints, and brushes for creating the images. You may want to vary the assignment to allow students to learn a medium that they have not yet used in the classroom such as photography. . There is also an extensions section that includes creating a mural as a class. This may be something you wish to pursue with your class instead of having students create individual pictures.
  • It is highly recommended that you exhibit students' work for the whole community. This is discussed in the conclusion section of the WebQuest. This provides the community with the chance to see what the students think is important about where they live. It will also allow the students to see how their art work is important to the community. Contact local public facilities such as the library, a mall, and so on to find a place to present the work where many will be able to see it.
Suggestions on the Evaluation Section of the WebQuest
  • To evaluate the students' performance and work in this WebQuest it is important to have them reflect on what they have learned individully and also as a class. Use the worksheet provided for personal reflection and have a group discussion about what students learned about the works they studied, about their own community, about being inspired by their surroundings in creating art, and so on. The most important thing to encourage is that students participate actively in each step of the WebQuest and that they come away being inspired by what they learned in creating their own art.
