Exercise Four : Create a personal learning portal or start-up page.

If you find yourself frequently going to the same websites or blogs to check for new content, there are two alternatives that can save you alot of time and effort. One is to use an aggregator (also called a feed reader or RSS aggregator) to collect new content from your favorite sites and blogs and list them all in one location. Popular aggregators include Google Reader, Bloglines, and FeedDemon (for Windows) or NetNewsWire (for MAC OS X). The other approach, which we will explore here, is to create a personal learning portal (PLP) or start-up page, that brings together links and RSS feeds to various sites, blogs, and web-based tools you visit and use on a regular basis, and makes them available through your Web browser. Following are three Web-based tools that allow you to create a PLP along with tutorials that will introduce you to each tool.

To complete this exercise: (1) choose one of these tools; (2) read or watch one or more of the corresponding tutorials; (3) register on the site you've selected; and (4) create your own PLP.
