Exercise One: Create a Wordle using (1) your teaching philosophy or (2) your artist statement.
Wordle allows you to turn any text into a "word cloud." The program gives greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. You can customize your layout, colors, fonts, or allow the program to randomly generate the cloud. Once you're satisfied with the results, you can print out your word clouds, or save them in the wordle gallery to share with others.
Create your own wordle now. Cut and paste your teaching philosophy or artist statement into the text box on the site and click on "Go." Then play around with the layout, colors, and fonts until you achieve satisfying results.
Generate a list of art vocabulary terms you teach in the classroom. Try repeating certain words to give them more prominence.
See what happens when you type into the text box a list of 20 words that describe "you."
Consider ways you might use this tool in the classroom.
